A native of Northeast Pennsylvania, Heather Harman grew up singing in church and school, and began taking voice lessons after her sixth grade music teacher inspired and encouraged her. Heather’s first solo performance consisted of selections from ‘The Sound of Music,’ which she sang at a district Spelling Bee. In high school, she sang in the choir and played lead roles in annual musicals. She competed and performed in the PMEA’s District and Regional Chorus Festivals as an Alto 1. She is a graduate of the Pennsylvania State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Secondary English Education. After graduation, she married her college sweetheart (Jeff) and moved to Dover, Delaware, where he grew up. She naturally found her way into teaching preschool when their daughter was 3. Worked in administration and taught 3-year-olds at St. John’s Lutheran Early Learning Center in Dover. After ten years in Delaware, Jeff’s job brought them to Salisbury, and God led her immediately to a job opening at Asbury Child Development Center, where she has worked since 2005. She has taught 3’s and 4’s, and since 2008 as Music teacher for all of the students, ages 2 through Kindergarten. In July of 2009, she received her certified as a Musikgarten instructor. Working at ACDC, she has the pleasure of meeting many wonderful people from church, making it clear that Asbury is meant to be their church home.
Heather has two children, Megan and Joshua. Megan has been singing since she could speak. A freshman at JM Bennett, she has performed as soloist in the Rock and Roll Revival Show, is a member of the JM Bennett Concert Choir, will be performing in the All Shore Chorus concert in April, she sings in Asbury’s Celebration and Chancel Choirs, and rings with Revelation Ringers. Joshua sings and rings with Asbury’s Krazy Kidz Gang, and is currently taking violin classes at school. This past December, he sang the lead role of ‘Amahl’ in Salisbury University’s production of Amahl and the Night Visitors. Her husband, Jeff, is a Senior Associate and head of the Civil Engineering department at Becker Morgan Group here in Salisbury. At church, you may see him dutifully recording his performing family, or running sound for Asbury’s services and musical productions.
