Card Ministry Team – our
Card Ministry Team makes and sends out cards when members are in the hospital
or when they experience the loss of a loved one. The Card Making Guild
meets on the fourth Monday of the month from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. to
make these Caring Cards. Cindy Centenio heads the effort to send out cards.
Care Notes - These are free booklets in the Welcome
Center containing information for those coping with difficult situations,
including grief, illness, loss of a loved one, and aging.
DivorceCare – This is a special seminar/support
group, held in the fall, for those experiencing the difficulties of separation
or divorce. It features DVDs of nationally recognized experts on divorce
and recovery topics, as well as a time for group support and processing.
Carol DiPetro from St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, and Virginia Catley,
Director of Care Ministries, lead the sessions.
Healing Prayers at the Altar- Trained lay persons lay
hands on those who choose to come forward during a hymn at the traditional
services on the fourth Sunday of the month.
Prayer Ministries – A weekly prayer group meets
on Wednesday mornings to honor prayer requests received at Asbury. A prayer
chain also responds to prayer requests. Loma Murray and Carol Bisker help
to coordinate these efforts.
RAINBOWS – a ministry to children and youth that
have experienced loss in their family due to death or separation/divorce.
Peer support groups are led by these trained, unpaid servants of God under
the supervision of Pat Phillips, Lay Director.
Spiritual Gifts Assessment - this class, taught by
Virginia Catley, is offered periodically to help members discover their
spiritual gifts, personal style, and ministry passion.
Stephen Ministries – a lay ministry using trained
volunteers to offer supportive care for persons in our congregation. Virginia
Catley, our Director of Care Ministries, offers training and supervision,
along with Marilyn Batie and Alice Anne Wells, trained Stephen Leaders.

Visitation Teams – lay persons who work in teams
to visit those in homes or nursing homes that are unable to attend church.
They bring fellowship and communion and fulfill Christ’s commandment
that we love one another.
Women’s Retreat – a yearly retreat designed
to give spiritual renewal and refreshment to the women of Asbury. This
retreat is usually held in mid-winter.
