Youth Program

Appalachia Service Project (ASP): Our program will celebrate 35 years of service this year. This is a mission project that sends a team of youth and adults to the Appalachia area for a week during the summer. The team’s mission is to help make homes warmer, safer and drier for their owners. More information is available on the ASP web page.

Acolytes: Youth in grades 6-9 serve as assistants in worship. They light altar candles and assist with communion and wherever needed.

Crucifers: Youth in grades 10-12 serve as cross bearers for our processional and recessionals in worship. They assist with baptisms and Holy Communion.

Confirmation Class: Designed for youth in 7th grade and older. The course teaches youth how to become a member of Asbury UMC. The culmination of the class is joining the church in May.

Bell & Chime Choirs: Are offered to youth in grades 3-12. For more information go to Music website.

Ellegood Award: A cash reward given usually to two graduating seniors. The recipients are chosen on their level of activity in youth ministries during their years in high school. The gift is given by the late Maria Ellegood in memory of her parents.

Hyde Memorial Scholarship: Ascholarship for Asbury students who are graduates of a Wicomico County public school. The gift is based on a student’s church activities as well as scholastic achievements. This scholarship is made possible through an endowment received form the late Paul Hyde in memory of his mother and himself.

Puppets for Christ: Youth in grades 6-12 meet weekly to prepare skits and dramas with beautiful puppets. The productions creatively teach all ages about the love of God. Join us on Monday evenings 7:00-8:15 P.M. in the puppet room #223.

Scouting Programs: Both Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts meet regularly at Asbury. The Boy Scout Troop 151 has been chartered here at Asbury for over 75 years! The scouting program serves youth in Kindergarten through twelfth grades!

Senior New Testament: All graduating high school seniors from Asbury receive a gift of leather bound New Testament. This is given through an endowment from Buela Twilley.

Sunday School & Kingdom City: Meet weekly on Sunday morning from 9:45-10:40 A.M. in the Education Wing. Kingdon City is available for youth in grades 2-5. The second floor of the Education Wing has been transformed into a city street in biblical times. Asbury proudly offers Sunday School to youth from 2 years old through 18 years old. Join us any time.

United Methodist Youth Fellowship (UMYF): Fun with a purpose. A fellowship gathering for youth in grades 6-12. The program meets weekly on Sunday evenings from 4:45-6:15 P.M. We enjoy a light snack type dinner, milkshakes or smoothies, fun games and meaningful discussion time.
